Pancake Week in the Centre for American Studies

A regular meeting with students from the USA took place in the Centre for American Studies of the Division of Romance and Germanic Philology of the Institute of Philology and Arts of KFU, at the end of the Pancake Week. 16 students from various states of the US came here for the whole academic year to participate in NSLI-Y program, supervised by a representative of American Councils, the program supervisor, Mr. K. Lihau Jackson. This time foreign guests got acquainted with Russian Pancake Week: they were offered pancakes with various fillings and told about the history of this feast origin, and also involved in thematic games. A friendly atmosphere was warmed up by a hot tea and guitar-accompanied songs. The Associate Professor of the Department of Contrastive Linguistics and Linguo-Stylistics, Ms. G. Kh. Aleyeva, was patronizing the event organizing. Thanks to her 2013 was not the first year, in which meetings of this type were held on a regular basis. Thanks to her meetings of this type are held on a regular basis and not for the first time this year. Communication of students studying foreign languages with students of the same age from other countries has become a kind of tradition cherished in a cosy, friendly atmosphere. And it could be for that reason that even a severe “Russian winter” hasn’t frightened our guests.

The Centre for American Studies, founded in 2009 under the supervision of Professor A. G. Sadykov, is conducting active educational and public activities: research-and-training and consulting-and-information activities organizing, scientific research work, holding of conferences, round tables, open seminars, library stock forming. Since its establishment day the Centre for American Studies has been actively cooperating with the Embassy of the USA in Russia.
