A KFU Team?s Project Occupied the Third Place in the Student Contest 'Microsoft Imagine Cup 2013'

A regional final of the largest international student contest Microsoft Imagine Cup 2013 was held in Kazan. 10 teams from universities and schools of Tatarstan, Ul’yanovsk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Izhevsk, Volgograd and Samara took part in it. The youngest participant was 13 years old, he studied in the 7th grade of Kazan-city school No. 177. The students demonstrated their innovation projects to the jury.

Sun Flowers team from Volgograd Technical University won the first place. It offered a project of energy-efficient heating control, involving a specially designed software which was built into the system and reduced energy resources consumption in the building. It is important that a prototype is already being tested in Netherlands. The second place was occupied by the project of Sly Lamb team from Nizhniy Novgorod branch of the Higher School of Economics –Space Kitty game for Windows 8, which was also recognized the best in “Games” category.

The project Voxel Sculptor of 3hard team from Kazan Federal University occupied the third place. KFU students offered a simplified method of 3D solids modeling with the help of Kinnect sensor – the project was recognized the best in “Innovations” category.

“All the projects presented during the contest in Kazan turned out to be extremely interesting and original, for example, I was absolutely astonished by Voxel Sculptor idea, which involves absolutely new technologies for a unique project elaboration in the sphere of 3D modeling, – noted Yaroslav Shvetsov, the head of IT-park Business Incubator. – It is important to develop and support such initiatives as Imagine Cup – they give a new start in life of young talented people. And namely for this reason we appreciate initiative and international experience of Microsoft, which will help to speed up this process”.
