3rd Russian Forum 'Economy in a Changing World'

Kazan University becomes a center of economic debate for the next ten days.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov welcomed the guests at the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, “Outstanding people have gathered today in this auditorium – we’ve been working with many of them since the 1990s. Today, many new regulations are adopted at the federal level, and we have to find scientific basis for the continuing changes and to understand how to prepare experts for the new economy.”

One of the headliners of the forum is Professor Natalya Zubarevich (Moscow State University). She presented her report on the regional development of Russia in 2018 and the development of urban agglomerations. Her outlook on the situation was rather pessimistic; in particular, she noted that the economic crisis and income stagnation are still in full force. She opined that the economy needs increases in legal jobs across the whole country. This is especially pertinent because Russian population is aging.

The other key speakers today were Dmitry Tolmachyov (Ural Federal University), Vladimir Klimanov (RANEPA), and Boris Zhikharevich (Leontyev Center).

The panel session was followed by a meeting of the Tatarstan 2030 Strategy Forum dedicated to agglomeration development.
