Kemerovo Governor Sergey Tsivilyov interested in Kazan University's experience of strategic development

A delegation from Kemerovo Oblast visited on 18th December.

This is the first trip to Tatarstan for Mr. Tsivilyov in his gubernatorial capacity. After the guests toured KFU museums, a meeting with Rector Ilshat Gafurov was arranged. He spoke about the University's development and internationalization strategy. Governor Tsivilyov reacted, “We can see that universities of Kemerovo Oblast are losing competition to neighboring regions. Some students go to Tomsk or Novosibirsk, then don't return after graduation, and we lose our potential. The staff shortage problem is quite pertinent.”

Rector Gafurov shared how research development boosts employment, in particular, by establishing joint production facilities with local industry. “Much depends on CEOs. I think that Kazan University's main treasure is its alumni, and the majority of our partner CEOs are our graduates. Personal relationships can determine quite a lot,” he said.

The main takeaway from the conversation was that Kemerovo needs to implement more ambitious projects for young people to realize their potential. That's why the sizable delegation also included the provincial parliament speaker, two federal senators, and several deputy governors.

On the same day, the Governor also met with KFU students from Kemerovo Oblast. He asked about their plans and emphasized, “We need for outgoing students to return back home. Our objective is to attract talent. The available jobs are mostly in high-tech companies in industry, agriculture, medicine, and other areas.”
