100th anniversary of Komsomol celebrated at Kazan University

Over 200 former members of the Soviet Young Communist League gathered in the Emperor Ballroom on Saturday, 27th October.

Before the celebratory meeting, a special exhibition was opened at the History Museum with the tagline “Born by a daring era” with many memorabilia and documents related to Komsomol. The first Communist Youth organization was created at Kazan University in 1922.

First Vice-Rector Riyaz Minzaripov was the one to congratulate the visitors. He was Deputy Secretary of Kazan University Komsomol Committee since 1976 until the latter’s dissolution. He noted that Komsomol was a very important management school for many young people who later became officials and businesspersons. Dr. Minzaripov emphasized that Komsomol’s primary objective – to bring up a socially active and responsible individual – has not lost relevance.

Former mayor of Kazan, a notable Komsomol alumnus, Kamil Iskhakov remembered fondly how the organization nurtured talented young people and their social initiatives, including those in arts.

Many other guests of the event also shared their best memories of Komsomol youth filled with interesting endeavors and good traditions.
