In the morning, Kazan Federal University was visited by John Anderson, 3rd Viscount Waverley. He arrived to get familiarized with the history and today’s developments of the University. Naturally, the tour included the History Museum, the Emperor Ballroom, and the Lenin Memorial Classroom.
Dr. Latypov spoke extensively on KFU’s strategy and existing ties with the United Kingdom. Lord Waverley, who has interests in online business, investment, and inter-parliamentary relations, was eager to know more about how to involve both countries’ institutions in cooperation projects in the current political climate.

In the afternoon, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Wahid Supriyadi presented a lecture for the students of the Institute of International Relations.
He emphasized the similarities of the two countries, including their multicultural environment, tolerance, and favorable bilateral relations with no historical baggage of grievances or conflicts. He also informed the audience that a direct flight between Moscow and Denpasar will soon be established.
The Ambassador expressed his joy at the fact that Indonesian-Russian trade has recently soared, with a 25% year-over-year increase between 2017 and 2016. According to him, this is a new era of opportunities for the two countries.
As for academic exchange and cooperation, there are currently 500 Indonesian students in Russia, including Kazan Federal University, and 150 Russians in Indonesia. Of course, there is a significant growth potential. Notably, KFU is one of the Russian universities which can also be proud of working links with Indonesian colleagues – an agreement with the Aceh Institute for Staff Development was signed in 2016.
