Rector Ilshat Gafurov spoke with participants of Kazan Precision Medicine Workshop

The meeting occurred on 12th September.

The workshop was initiated by the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. It tackled the diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases. Precision medicine is a new trend where personalized approach is the key.

At the meeting, one of KFU’s collaborators, Dr. Nigel Mongan, noted, “Our joint work in the last 18 months has been very successful. There is enthusiasm for the further widening of cooperation between Russia and the United Kingdom. One of areas here is academic exchange.”

Dr. Albert Rizvanov, Head of Gene and Cell Technologies Lab at Kazan University, was the driving force behind the workshop and received many warm words for his contributions and cooperation efforts. Research undertaken by his team was the primary attraction for the guests.

Dr. Brian Robinson, Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cornell University, opined, “Judging by what we have witnessed here at Kazan University, I can say that it’s equivalent to decades of work. From our joint efforts I expect the doubling of our expertise in finding new ways to battle cancer. Your infrastructure and possibilities are equal to or even better than what we have in New York.”

Dr. Gafurov spoke in some detail about how KFU plans to activate the potential of the University Clinic and how its innovative research model helps weave together interdisciplinary scientific endeavors.
