General Consulate of the People's Republic of China opened in Kazan

Many guests from Kazan University were invited to the ceremony on 22nd August.

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov greeted the guests and said that this is a big new step in relations between Russian and China. This new location will attract even more interest of Chinese investors to Tatarstan. He also noted how successfully the trade turnover between the Republic of Tatarstan and China is growing – an astounding 50% increase year-to-year in 2017. “We have wonderful relations with our Chinese colleagues, and now that this excellent consulate has opened I think that we need direct flights to China to further boost our links,” he added.

This is the sixth general consulate of PRC in Russia, said Ambassador Li Hui. He reminded that 2018 and 2019 have been designated the years of interregional cooperation between the two countries.

Kazan Federal University is currently a home for 800 Chinese students, and this year's enrolment will help increase this quantity to over a thousand individuals, informed Vice-Rector Linar Latypov in his interview to Univer TV. “They can now directly apply to Kazan for visas. The same is a convenience for us – we can obtain visas in our own city and not in Moscow,” he said.
