Kazan University and Russian Federal Nuclear Center ready to break new ground in medicine

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and a number of executives visited Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, on 14th July.

Russian Institute of Technical Physics may become Tatarstan's strategic partner, as the meetings have shown. The sides discussed powder-based treatment of oil reservoirs, digitization of industrial production, laser technologies, and medicine. Rector Ilshat Gafurov noted that RITP was very interested in talented staff, “Our Institute of Physics drew much interest because it graduates experts in laser technology; this is a large field for cooperation, including new joint educational programs.”

KFU and RITP have already started working together with Tatneft in viscous oil extraction and are ready to exchange experience. Colleagues from Snezhinsk are also keen on enhancing medical research and made a proposal.

“The proposal pertain to two lasers that were produced by RITP for medical applications. There is now an idea to ship such lasers to us, so that we could conduct clinical research at our Institute of Fundamental Medicine and the University Clinic,” added Dr. Gafurov.

It is expected that agreements will be signed after a return visit by RITP employees in September 2018.
