Apple orchard planted to celebrate first graduation of medical doctors in 88 years

A ceremony was held in a new building of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology.

The solemn event was attended by First Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Tatarstan Sergey Osipov, Chief Dentist of Tatarstan Nailya Shaimieva, Chief Dentist of Kazan Leysan Muratova, and other honored guests.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov congratulated the young professionals and told them how medical science returned to Kazan University after a separate entity, now Kazan State Medical University, was created in 1930. He praised the hard work undertaken by educators, 30 labs, the University Clinic, collective use centers, and the pharmaceutical production facility.

The Rector commended those who succeeded in going the full distance of education, which clearly required arduous effort. The numbers speak for themselves – thirty people enrolled in the dentistry curriculum in 2013, and only nine received diplomas. Fate was more favorable for pharmacists, of whom only one was expelled, and eighteen proudly joined the joyous occasion today.

Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology Andrey Kiyasov thanked everyone for their dedication. In what became the most touching moment of the day, he then read the Hippocratic Oath with all the new alumni.

The participants then went out to the courtyard and planted an alumni’s alley.
