Delegation of Leibniz Center of Oriental Studies

A memorandum of understanding was signed on 15th May.

The signatories were Vice-Rector Linar Latypov and Deputy Director of the Leibniz Center (ZMO) Sonja Hegasy. Later in the day, Dr. Hegasy presented some results of her inquiry into the role of young people in contemporary societies of the Middle East and North Africa.

ZMO is the only German research institute devoted to interdisciplinary and comparative study of the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia from a historical perspective. Current research focuses on the interaction between predominantly Muslim societies and their relations with non-Muslim neighbors. That’s why cooperation with Tatarstan, a multi-religious region, is very promising for German experts in this field.

In March 2017, a delegation of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies visited a number of universities in Germany and ZMO. Currently, the sides plan to develop projects in Oriental studies. ZMO has already been engaged in research of Russia and the CIS countries. KFU provides great opportunities to involve young scientists from these regions into various projects.
