Kazan University to work on prosopography of Achaemenid Persian Empire with British and American colleagues

Professor Eduard Rung put forth the initiative during a meeting of the Association of Ancient Historians.

Professor Rung reached an agreement with Professor John Hyland, Christopher Newport University, to launch a new project in Persian history.

The idea was first voiced in 1987 by Professor Christopher Tuplin, University of Liverpool. He was invited by Dr. Rung to KFU in 2017 and partook in a conference on the Ancient Europe. He will join this new project.

Apart from this, the sides also decided to arrange a conference on Achaemenid Persia in Kazan. The event will be co-organized by KFU and the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. The meeting is scheduled for 2020 to coincide with the 2,500th anniversary of the Second Persian invasion of Greece.

Another result of Dr. Rung’s visit was a preliminary agreement with Alexander Nagel, National Museum of Natural History, about his visit to KFU and a series of lectures about museology in the United States. He will also share details of his pioneering research in the polychromy of ancient sculptures.
