Association of Russian Lawyers and Kazan University to intensify joint pro bono work

A new agreement was signed on 9th April.

The signatories were Rector Ilshat Gafurov and Chairman of the Council of Tatarstan Branch of the Association of Russian Lawyers Ildar Khalikov, who is a KFU alumnus in law.

Pro bono is one the pillars of the Association’s work. Mr. Khalikov said that 26,000 Tatarstanis received free help in 2017, mostly in property rights. Hundreds of law experts partook in this project. “Using this opportunity, I want to thank Kazan University for helping in the Association’s work, and, in particular, for its activities in education, such as the School of Law Project,” said he.

In 2018, 12 outreach trips are planned to rural districts of Tatarstan to provide free legal advice there. Also, a number of TV programs will be launched. KFU employees are engaged in all of the projects.

The agreement confirmed some obligations that KFU and ARL had taken upon themselves in earlier periods and expanded on them. Rector Gafurov commented, “After this signing I have to mention that the University is now working on a University 4.0 concept. It’s a model of a university which is capable of answering the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. That’s why it’s very important to cooperate in various forms, including such associations. Thus, we are jointly responsible for those who leave our walls and for their capabilities in addressing today’s problems. It’s very important to us to walk this road and help others do it. Speaking about legal education for the wider population, I can offer the platforms of our University television. The questions raised by the Association will be of interest to the TV audience.”

ARL and KFU will from now hold quarterly meetings to synchronize positions.
