Negotiations Held with Potential Partners in Vietnam

A delegation took a trip to the country on 25th February – 1st March.

Vietnamese branch of Rossotrudnichestvo (Office for Cooperation with Russia) invited universities for a regular event in the Universities of Russia project. The project was launched in Vietnam in 2014. Apart from KFU, 13 Russian universities accepted the invitation. They all have seen significant increases in enrolment from Vietnam in the last years.

Currently, there are about 5,000 Vietnamese nationals in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Russia. Our country also assigns quotas for free education for Vietnamese students – there were 953 in 2017, and over 1,000 are planned for the upcoming admission season.

As for KFU, there are 24 Vietnamese citizens here. In other developments, 2017 was the first year when 17 freshmen started learning the Vietnamese language.

During the trip, our delegation visited the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi University, Vietnam National University, University of Khanh Hoa, and several secondary schools. Cooperation talks have also started with Nha Trang University.

A preliminary wording of a memorandum of understanding was discussed with the University of Khanh Hoa and sent for approval to the appropriate authorities. Rector Le Thi My Binh was also present at the negotiations. In particular, programs in international tourism drew interest. Naturally, student exchange and joint research were also the point of discussion.

As Director of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies Ramil Khayrutdinov noted, the Institute has now amassed enough experience to create the Eurasian Educational Center (tentative name), an educational hub uniting various programs of European and Asian universities. The Center will be aimed at providing innovative curricula and establishing university consortiums. Universities of Vietnam may become one of the first to partner up with KFU for this purpose and help it in reaching the goals of the program of export of Russian education.
