Florid Agzamov Memorial Classroom Opened at the Higher School of Journalism and Media Communications

Florid Agzamov (1936 - 2005), first Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, was commemorated today by his colleagues and students.

In 2016, a memorial plaque to Florid Agzamov was placed at his home address in Kazan.  Now, room 224 of the Higher School building will also bear the renowned scholar's name. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairwoman of the State Council Rimma Ratnikova, Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky, leading local media, educators, and students.

Dr. Tayursky said, “What Florid Agzamov did for the University was a natural result of his proactive attitude and foresight. I am sure that Agzamov Classroom will be one of the recognizable staples of Kazan University. It’s a testament to the quality of education and research in mass media, the foundation for which was laid by this great scientist.”

Director of the Higher School of Journalism Leonid Tolchinsky told the audience that there is a plan to open a virtual museum about KFU alumni and employees who have contributed to literary arts. After witnessing a number of warm recollections by the late professor’s peers and students, he also proposed to publish a book of memories about him.

The opening was arranged during the first day of Agzamov Readings, a traditional international conference on journalism and media, co-organized by KFU, Tatarstan Union of Journalists, and newspapers Respublika Tatarstan and Vatanym Tatarstan. This year, over 70 contributors have arrived from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Turkey, China, and Vietnam.
