KFU to Open a Lab Dedicated to Internet of Things and Augmented Reality with PTC Inc.

It will start working in January 2018.

The decision was approved on 27th December at the last meeting of the KFU Academic Council.

Director of the Institute of Computational Mathematics and IT Sergey Mosin commented, “The scientific part will comprise projects in intellectual systems of the IoT. Our priorities lie in the industrial IT.”

The Lab plans to involve about 120 students in its work in 2018. The Lab’s primary software will be provided by PTC Inc., and the workstations will possess the necessary boards, controllers, sensors, and other hardware needed for physical implementations of the IoT.

Sergey Mosin noted that the University plans to use its partnership with PTC to seek contacts with industrial clients, “On one hand, the Lab will actively involve students into education through its PTC Academic Program and PTC IoT Academic Program. On the other hand, any educational program must also prepare professionals who are also ready to be competent contractors for business. One of Lab’s priorities will be to attract scientists to its R&D.”

Dr. Mosin emphasized that this new development is in line with the Strategy of Digital Economy recently approved by President Vladimir Putin. Naturally, further digitization is hardly imaginable without sensor networks and the IoT. These new technologies are already finding their place in our everyday lives – smart cities, automated housing utilities, smart medicine, and others.
