The signatories on December 11th were Rector Ilshat Gafurov and Head (Chairman of the Government) Aleksandr Yevstifeyev.

The cooperation within the framework of the agreement will be based on the general goals set by the Strategy of Socioeconomic Development of the Volga Federal District until 2020.

The Republic plans to utilize KFU's experience in advancing its research and to open joint innovative departments and entities on the territory of Mari El. KFU aims to widen its project network and offer advanced training programs for local professionals.

The agreement is one in the series of such documents signed with the regions of the federal district. Earlier in the year analogous agreements were signed with Chuvash Republic and Penza Oblast.
