Islamica Center Opened at the Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow

The ceremony took place in Moscow on December 6th and was attended by Rector Ilshat Gafurov and Director Ramil Khayrutdinov.

KFU Islamica Center was opened back in 2014 and is headed by the Research Supervisor of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Naumkin. This new center at the IOS will be a network partner for the KFU Islamica Center.

The creation of a new situation center at KFU was discussed at the yesterday's meeting. It will be aimed at combining educational and analytical activities and providing expertise for the government and business. The situation center’s focus will be on the Middle East. A preliminary agreement was reached to work jointly on such a center. Director of the IOS Valery Androsov and Dr. Naumkin also used the opportunity to congratulate Rector Gafurov with the awarding of the Order of Friendship.

Later in the day, the Rector partook in negotiations with an Iranian delegation and talked about KFU's developments in Islamic and Iranian studies. The guests from the Islamic Republic showed interest in his presentation.

KFU also co-signed a memorandum of cooperation and understanding with the IOS, Bashkir State University, the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, and Cultural Mission of the Embassy of Iran in Russia. The sides will develop interactions in Islamic studies, history and spiritual culture of Farsi-speaking peoples, and international and interreligious dialog.
