Heads of Social Science Departments of Tatarstan's Universities Visited KFU's Facilities

A tour of KFU’s biomedical cluster and a meeting with Rector Ilshat Gafurov took place on December 4th.

Before the meeting, the guests visited KFU’s biomedical facilities, where Vice-Rector Andrey Kiyasov familiarized them with his Institute’s current activities.

Addressing the colleagues at the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, the Rector said, “Our meeting is in execution of the request by the Council of Rectors of Tatarstan. We would like heads of social science departments to visit our national research universities and the federal university. It’s necessary to see how the universities develop. Five years have passed since the research universities obtained their status, and their first term as such expires next year; it’s also time to make some conclusions about Kazan University’s performance as a federal university. These questions will be discussed on 13th – 14th December in Belgorod at a convention of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.”

The participants of the meeting also listened to a general overview of the Tatarstan’s educational system and its development in the last 10 years. Currently, 152,000 higher education students are serviced by 50 universities, and there are 94 colleges covering 68,000 vocational students.

Rector Gafurov spoke about the University’s development strategy and its new structural units in medicine, engineering, and teaching education. He emphasized how this development is linked to Tatarstan’s socioeconomic objectives and showed KFU’s progress in international rankings.
