Access center to the President Library may be opened in Tatarstan. Kazan Federal University Rector Ilshat Gafurov discussed with General Manager of the President Library Alexander Vershinin possibilities of locating this center at the University.
On March, 12 University delegation visited the President Library. “Our objective is to get acquainted with the functioning of the first national library of the Russian Federation and to settle down the courses of cooperation”, Ilshat Gafurov noted.
It was mentioned, that being a modern research-and-scientific and cultural center and applying innovations in its work, the President Library is oriented on maximum availability of digital copies of rare materials for visitors of reading halls and for representative offices in regions of the Federation. Kazan University is targeted at concentration of educational resources for systematic, complex solution of both modernization problems. It is oriented on the development as a center of scientific education, fundamental and applied studies, social and cultural innovations. In this relation opening of access on the base of the University will allow students and specialists to study rare and valuable editions and documents from National Electronic Fund for History of Russian Statehood. As he says, suitable building for locating the access center is already built and is situated not far from the main University complex.
Fund of University National Library amounts to more than 6.5 mln depository units, more than 150.000 of them are rare and valuable editions that should have electronic copies and be open to public. Today their digitalization is being actively carried out. Along with this, specialists from Kazan Federal University consider quality standards of digital content, that President Library requires, so that these documents will be included into the national electronic depository and will be able to researches in any part of the country.
In the last time namely educational institutions put forward initiatives on organization of access points to the President Library resources. Electronic reading halls of the library are already opened for visitors from the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg State University, from Moscow State University of Law n.a. O.E. Kutafin (Moscow), Pacific National University (Khabarovsk), Kostroma State University n.a. N.A. Nekrasov (Kostroma), Northern (Arctic) Federal University (Arkhangelsk). In the nearest future they will cooperate with Leningrad State University n.a. Pushkin.
Development of regional network and creation of the President Library branches is carried out according to the Order of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin dated to June, 18, 2007. Today the Library has a network of regional centers, electronic reading halls in more than 40 regions of the Federation, besides, branch in Tyumen is being developed.
