Medical Education Programs Accredited by Federal Government

An order was published by Rosobrnadzor on October 18th.

The Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology decided to use the opportunity (previously unavailable) to accredit programs before the first graduation. The Institute is only five years old now, so its inaugural alumni will only leave the University's walls in 2018 (dentistry and pharmacy) and 2019 (fundamental medicine and clinical medicine).

For the accreditation, Rosobrnadzor, the federal educational accreditation and oversight agency, sent three experts, one for each of the groups of majors – clinical medicine (General Medicine and Dentistry), fundamental medicine (Medical Biochemistry, Medical Biophysics, and Medical Cybernetics), and pharmacy. The experts evaluated paperwork, educational programs, equipment and facilities, and exam procedures. They also collected questionnaires from students to check their satisfaction with the studying process and competences.

Federal accreditation is very important for Russian students. It gives the right to issue standard government-approved certificates and diplomas, the right to postpone army enlistment for young men, and the right to use “maternity capital” to pay tuition fees. This status also opens opportunities for students to participate in some of the scholarship and grant contests where accreditation of a particular student's major is a mandatory requirement.
