20th Zavoisky Prize for Young Scientists Given Out at Kazan University

The ceremony occurred on September 28th, on the day of the famous physicist’s 110th anniversary.

Yevgeny Zavoisky, the discoverer of electron paramagnetic resonance, was, according to many experts, the closest of KFU employees to receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics in the 213 years of the University’s existence. Interestingly, the first winner of the prize in 1997 was Dmitry Tayursky, now Vice-Rector for Education, - and the one who greeted the participants of the 2017’s ceremony.

Another prominent speaker was Rudolf Grimm, member of the KFU International Scientific Council. Before the ceremony he presented a lecture on ultracold atoms, his main area of expertise.

This year the main prize was given to two young scientists: Niyaz Beysengulov from KFU and Andrey Kamashev from Kazan Physical-Technical Institute. Second-degree diploma went to Amir Sulimov, and third-degree diploma – to Dmitry Blokhin, both KFU employees.

The other five finalists also received awards.
