Celebrating Knowledge Day

Today Kazan Federal University and its many branches and institutions are celebrating the beginning of a new academic year.

The first ceremony was held at the Lobachevsky Lyceum. Director Yelena Skobeltsyna addressed the audience, “I am greeting everyone on this sunny day. Of course, it's a pity that the summer is over, but it's great that a new academic year begins, with which new hopes are connected. I am sure that strong, solid, profound knowledge that you will receive from us will become your support in life, help you set goals correctly and reach them”.

The Director told the students and their parents about the possibilities of additional education. "This summer the lyceum teachers won a grant to support educational organizations working with gifted children. The funding amounts to 2.3 million rubles”, she added.

Referring to the newcomers, Ms. Skobeltsyna expressed her hope that they will successfully join the Lyceum's educational team and will become worthy successors to the current graduates.

"Kazan University has been supporting the Lyceum since its inception. Today is the fifth year, as we are a structural subdivision of the KFU”, proudly said Ms. Skobeltsyna and gave the floor to Rector Ilshat Gafurov.

The Rector congratulated the students and wished them success in the new academic year. He said that the Lyceum is special, “A couple of days ago it became known that you were in the Top 50 middle schools in Russia. You are studying in a great school, and you can be proud; these traditions should be preserved".

Today events on the occasion of the Knowledge Day will also be held at the IT Lyceum and the institutes. A grand event for the freshmen will be held at 6 pm in the Universiade Village.

Within the framework of the celebration, a concert program will be organized with the invitation of the University management and guests of honor. Art performances by best KFU teams and invitees will be presented.

At the end of the evening, a flash mob will be organized, where each student will be able to become a participant in a mass action, take the oath of a freshman, and prove themselves worthy in other interactive contests of the evening.

As of September 1, more than 11,000 people enrolled in Kazan University, of them 7,900 undergraduates and 3,100 master students. Some more foreign nationals will be arriving throughout September.
