Psychological Clinic Opened at the Institute of Psychology and Education

Clinic Manager, Associate Professor Endzhe Latypova explained what this new establshment's objectives are.

“Creating the Psychological Clinic kills two birds with one stone: first, our psychologists provide free help to students, employees, and local inhabitants; second, working at the Clinic gives students of the Institute of Psychology and Education an opportunity to acquire practical skills. Some universities solve this particular problem by giving additional lessons, some do nothing at all. As a result, after graduation we often have researchers, not practical workers, who have a sum of theoretical knowledge but very little understanding of how to work with a client”, said she.

When future psychologists end their curriculum at KFU and go into compulsory practical training, experienced colleagues supervise them.

Dr. Latypova elaborated, “Supervisor is an employee of the Institute of Psychology and Education who takes his or her protégé under guidance and takes full responsibility for them. By analyzing their individual skills and work methods session by session the supervisor tries to resolve existing difficulties and direct his supervised to individual therapy if needed”.

The Clinic can provide maximum involvement into psychological consultancy for students – this means opportunities to be both a client and a professional consultant. This experience can then boost their competitiveness.

As was stated, the Clinic will provide expertise in family relationships, parent-child interactions, occupation choice consultancy, weight disorders, learning complications, adaptation to new life circumstances, psychosomatic diseases, and general interpersonal relationships.

The services will be rendered by professors and students of the Center for Practical Psychology, Ethnopsychology and Psychology of Intercultural Communication.
