The rankings continue to be characterized by rapidly rising results demonstrated by emerging universities.

Quacquarelli Symonds published its most recent subject rankings for 2017; it includes about 4 thousand world universities. Kazan University has shown sizable progress and entered 8 categories. They are as follows (Russian ranking in parentheses):

Linguistics – 101-150 (3rd);

Archeology – 151-200 (3rd);

Communication and Media Studies – 151-200 (same as the other 2 Russian representatives);

English Language and Literature – 251-300 (2nd);

Education and Training – 251-300 (2nd);

Economics and Econometrics – 301-350 (5th);

Physics and Astronomy – 351-400 (11th);

Chemistry – 401-450 (5th).

The University is also 3rd by the number of ranked categories among Project 5-100 participants.
