Kazan University Launches New English-Language Law Journal

The first issue of Kazan University Law Review” came out on December 15th.

The appearance of a locally published law journal was a long-awaited event for the University. The idea was discussed for a long time due to the expanding international contacts of the University and the Faculty of Law. Another stiumulus was provided by overseas colleagues who expressed keen interest in Russian law and joint programs. In addition, leading law schools around the world have set the trend for developing beyond local-language periodical publications and creating independent English-language journals. The idea here is to make contemporary Russian law accessible to an experienced foreign reader.

In this first issue the editorial board is pleased to introduce articles contributed by KFU academics and colleagues from foreign universities. The cover article was provided by former longstanding Dean of the Faculty of Law Ildar Tarkhanov (now Research Consultant of the Faculty). His article is devoted to the two remarkable former students of the Faculty - Leo Tolstoy and Vladimir Lenin.

Professor Valery Lazarev, a KFU alumnus now living and working in Moscow, supported the first issue by his insightful and important article on the integrative perception of law.

The journal also includes a posthumously published paper by Professor Mikhail Chelyshev. Professor Aydar Tufetulov and Professor Damir Valeev co-authored the article with him in 2013.

The Editorial Board hopes that readers will enjoy and find valuable the contributions of authors from abroad, including Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin (Center of International Law of Paris, France), Professor Nina Kršljanin (University of Belgrade, Serbia) and Professor Jaroslaw Turlukowski (Warsaw University, Poland).

“Kazan University Law Review” aims to become a popular international platform for discussions about current Russian and global law problems and issues.
