Rector Ilshat Gafurov Presented the University's Potential During the Ministry of Finance Panel

Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov and other top executives arrived to the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance on December 17th.

The panel was dedicated to this year's results for the Tatarstani financial and economic authorities and plans for 2017.

The Minister said, “The Republic has closely approached the economic growth goals set by the President of Russia. The decisions made here, investment mechanisms, governance – all this allows us to tell that such regions provide economic growth in the country as a whole”.

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov drew attention to the downside of such success. In particular, financial aid from the federal budget has been halved in comparison to 2012. This stems mostly from the priorities given by the central authorities to problematic federal subjects.

To this Mr. Siluanov responded that correcting such imbalance is one of the priorities for the federal government. However, a new aid model will only come into force in 2018. The current financial climate will undoubtedly put some strain on salaries for state employees, tax deductions and grants for businesses, and the national financial policy in total.

The federal center is sure that regions like Tatarstan are capable of maintaining high growth rates. As the Minister noted, Tatarstan is one of the best when it comes to creating jobs and a comfortable business environment.

Before the meeting the Minister toured the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance and had a talk with academics and students. He was glad to see many young educators and said that they can teach students all the newest trends and technologies.

Moreover, the guest also discussed the KFU's role in the grand scheme of things in Tatarstan with the University's leaders. The University is not only the top educational institution but also quite a sizable economic actor by itself. This is proven by many partnerships with regional, federal and overseas companies. Rector Ilshat Gafurov confirmed that such developments will always remain in focus for KFU, especially within the new University 3.0 framework concentrating education, science, and industrial production in one cluster.
