Vice-Rector Andrey Artemyev Joined the Ranks of the Tatarstani Parliament

He is going to retain his current job responsibilities at KFU in full capacity.

Dr. Artemyev plans to implement his experience in social entrepreneurship and innovation management at a wider scale. The system of youth and social business support at KFU has drawn attention in Tatarstan and some other regions.

The University serves as the launch base for such startups, assists in seed investment and partnership arrangements. Any and all projects are welcome if they are directed at serving the community and contributing to the well-being of citizens.

Vice-Rector comments, «We establish these new companies, register them and call for investment; now it's time to analyze the existing laws. That’s what I plan to do at the State Council. Today we have to outline and define social entrepreneurship as a concept, the criteria for obtaining a social entrepreneur status, apply for funding or deductions».

His second goal is to assist nonprofit entities in applying for state funding. President Vladimir Putin has recently ordered that 10% of public funding for social services should be distributed among nonprofits. The legal basis has not yet been developed, so Dr. Artemyev plans to join this work as well.

More and more attention is drawn globally to social issues and social entrepreneurship, and Kazan University is definitely at the head of this peloton. Moreover, there is a personal interest here, so to speak, because many KFU alumni can find their calling in these areas.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov, of course, has long been a deputy of the State Council, so there are now two acting KFU executives among the hundred members of the provincial parliament.
