Liverpool John Moores University Proposes Joint Projects

Professor Dhiya Al-Jumeily met with Rector Ilshat Gafurov on November 10th

Dr. Al-Jumeily's two talking points were Sensor City and drones – LJMU’s two main competitive advantages. He also presented joint IT medicine projects. The relevant directors from the KFU's side were also present at the meeting.

Rector Gafurov said, “We’ve heard some interesting suggestions. We are especially interested in Big Data applications in medicine and engineering. But first we have to determine the parameters of existing labs and projects”.

The sides also discussed publication activities in the UK. KFU is ready to work actively in this area - the two people in charge will be Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky and Professor Dzhamilya Mustafina. The main difference between Russian and British publication systems is that in the latter academics themselves can establish journals, and universities only serve as supporting institutions.

Some of the more specific questions were also touched upon. In particular, Chief Medical Officer of the University Clinic Almir Abashev was interested in an intellectual valve system for hydrocephaly treatment. Director of ITIS Ayrat Khasyanov raised the question of drone safety.

An agreement may be signed further down the road after both universities study the existing opportunities.
