A press briefing about the admission campaign was held at Tatar Inform on July 15th.

The two KFU's representatives present were Director of International Office Andrey Krylov and Deputy Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology Anisa Gumerova.

3,200 overseas students from over 80 countries are studying at the University as of the end of academic year 2015/2016. This year the number will rise to 4 thousand.

Andrey Krylov specified, “Foreign students prefer economics, fundamental medicine and biology, international relations and Oriental studies, philology, geology and petroleum technologies. The less popular are law, social studies and psychology, teacher education. Chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering are in much less demand due to their laborious nature”.

Of course, both Russian and English programs are available for all students.

Anisa Gumerova spoke about her Institute, “22 percent of our students are foreigners. More than half of them are from non-CIS states. They are studying biology on undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs. We also offer English programs in medicine – these are General Medicine and Dentistry. Interestingly, students from CIS choose both Russian and English programs. And they show commendable results”. IFMB is now a home for overseas students from over 40 countries.

The number of English programs grows steadily. Mr. Krylov said that 9 new master programs in English will be introduced this year. He added that those who are interested in Russian philology hail mostly from Europe and the Americas. Asian students tend to choose other majors, to a large extent due to the excellent price/quality ratio in comparison with European universities.
