Kazan University Is a Part of International Biodiversity Project in the Arctic

The Department of Zoology and General Biology of KFU works together with the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources.

Global interest to the Arctic has been steadily rising in the last decades. Anthropogenic influence has already proved to be detrimental to the local flora and fauna.

Russian national strategy currently includes international cooperation for the preservation of Arctic marine ecosystems.

Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Zoology and General Biology Aleksey Golikov spent two months studying hydrobiological samples from the Davis Strait (the one separating Greenland and Canada’s Baffin Island) and neighboring water zones. Extracted data can be helpful in further climate change exploration and Arctic biodiversity preservation.

His results were presented at the Cephalopod International Advisory Council conference in November 2015.
