Kazan University Showing Solid Results in National Subject Rankings

RAEX rating agency presented its inaugural subject rankings report in this week’s Expert magazine.

The ranking methodology follows general guidelines suggested by such global leaders as Times Higher Education, QS, and ARWU.

There are three indicators: Growth Quality (includes citations quality and index of publications’ concentration), Demand for Research (includes citations of journals where said institution was published, citations per publication, and citations number weighted by subject area), and Consistency of Research Activities (includes general H-index, H-index by employee, and ratio of publications in relevant subject area). The citations rankings were cleaned from cross-citations within institutions.

KFU’s rankings among Russian universities are as follows:

Economics – 8th;

Mathematics – 23rd;

Life Sciences - 12th;

Energy – 18th;

Chemistry – 9th-11th;

Arts and Humanities – 2nd;

Computer Sciences – 10th-12th;

Social Sciences - 3rd.

The success in humanities and social sciences is especially impressive, keeping in mind that Kazan University left behind some of the participating institutions that specifically focus on these subject areas.
