Skolkovo Scientific Advisory Council Convenes at Kazan University

The Council consists of 27 world-renowned scientists, three of them Nobel laureates.

Today, April 4th, Skolkovo Scientific Advisory Council held its offsite meeting at Kazan University.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov used this occasion to familiarize the guests with KFU’s research and projects. The esteemed visitors gladly accepted Rector’s invitation to tour the facilities because they were quite curious about what helped KFU to make such a significant progress in international rankings.

Professor Vladimir Zelman asked about the popularity of the University Clinic among locals because he has witnessed several instances of such establishments not being quite in high demand. This is not a problem for Kazan, though, since more than 50 thousand citizens are allocated to be serviced by the Clinic and eagerly awaiting the changes that KFU can make in the infrastructure and treatment technologies.

Nobel laureate Zhores Alferov made several inquiries about the University's structure and administrative issues. All in all, the councilors started engaging the Rector immediately after landing at the airport and showed genuine interest in KFU’s affairs.

Dr. Alferov opined that Rector Gafurov's presentation was impressive. He also didn’t forget to mention that Kazan has a special place in the hearts of academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences because it was the place of evacuation for many leading institutes of RAS during World War II.

After the meeting Professor Zelman held an open lecture titled «From Medical Genetics to Genomic Medicine: An Eyewitness Account».

Tomorrow, April 5th, members of the Council will meet with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and then discuss the results of their visit at the plenary session.
