Kazan University to Receive 900 Million Rubles in Project 5-100 Funding

The Council on Competitiveness held a session in Moscow on March 18th-19th.

The universities this time were divided into three groups, with the first receiving 900 million rubles in 2016, the second – 500 million, and the third – 150 million.

Beside Kazan Federal University, the top group ended up including MIPT, MISiS, HSE, MEPhI, Novosibirsk SU, and ITMO.

While working on its roadmap KFU tried to follow the Project Office's recommendations and to concentrate on specific areas (they are now called Strategic Academic Units). Kazan University chose four units – 7P Translational Medicine, EcoOil, AstroChallenge, and Teacher 21.

The financing scheme has also changed. Beside the already mentioned main subsidies, there are also 350 million grants that universities can obtain for specific projects. The competition for these grants is planned to take place during the next Council meeting in November 2016 at Kazan University.
