A Turkish delegation led by Kadir Koçdemir, Governor of Eskişehir Province  
visited Kazan Federal University on November, 7.
The delegation was accompanied by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Republic of Turkey Aydar Gashigullin. The guests met with KFU Vice-Rector for International Relations, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations Linar Latypov.

For reference. Eskisehir is the province in the western Turkey, in the region of Central Anatolia. Its area is 13 904 km ². The population of the province is 781,247 people. The city Eskişehir is situated on the river Porsuk, 250 km west to Ankara, 350 km south-east to Istanbul, 90 km south to Kütahya. The name Eskişehir means "old town" in Turkish (Turkish eski - old, şehir - city).

Eskişehir used to be a capital of the young Ottoman Empire at the beginning of XIV century, until the conquest of Edirne. According to the decision of the Summit of Turkic-speaking Countries, Eskişehir is to become "cultural capital of the Turkic world" in 2013.

"Kazan and Eskişehir have been twin cities since 1990”, said Linar Latypov. “This province is known to have a large Tatar diaspora consisting of Kazan Tatars and Crimean Tatars. Anadolu University located in the city always holds conferences on the Tatar language and culture".

The Governor's visit is awareness-raising. The guests were interested in Oriental and Turkic Studies at the Kazan Federal University because Tatarstan is considered as a part of the Turkic world. They made a tour of Museum of History and the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations.
