Delegation of Kazan Federal University in EPFL (Switzerland)

Delegation of Kazan Federal University headed by Rector Ilshat Gafurov is visiting Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland).

For reference. The École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology. It was founded in 1853 under the name École Spéciale de Lausanne. Later, from 1946 to 1969 it was part of University of Lausanne. In 1969 EPFL gained independence and the status of technical university. It is considered one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Europe and is often compared with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA). In 2009, EPFL was evaluated as 1 among European universities and, according to Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranking it is among the top 15 universities of the world in the field of Engineering and Computer Sciences. EPFL is ranked 35 in QS World University of the world. Times Higher Education Ranking put EPFL into the first place in Europe in the field of Engineering.

The delegation has already visited Laboratory of Informatics and Visualization, Department IT for ENAC faculty, Laboratory of Microengineering for Manufacturing, Laboratory of Mechanical Metallurgy.

On November, 1 the delegation’s program schedules a visit to Dynamics of Stem Cell Laboratory, presentation of Mindmaze brain activity project. EPFL will present their projects to be implemented in partnership with Russia.
On November, 2 it is planned to sign Agreement of Academic and Scientific Cooperation between Kazan Federal University and the Laboratory of Informatics and Visualization of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.


It should be noted that the scientific collaboration of Kazan Federal University with Swiss universities takes place in some areas: in the field of physics - with the University of Zurich (within the frames of trilateral scientific cooperation Switzerland - Russia - Georgia, with financial support from the Swiss Science Foundation), in mathematics and geophysics - with the Higher Technical School of Zurich (ETH), in sociology and law -with the University of Fribourg.
