Results of the VIII Russian Orientalists Congress were summed up in KFU

Today, on September 28, 2012, the results of the VIII Russian Orientalists Congress were summed up in Kazan University.

During the closing session elections of President of the Russian Orientalists Society were held. Mr. Linar Latypov, the Vice-Rector of KFU for International Relations, was elected the President. In his speech Mr. Latypov thanked his colleagues for trust and offered to concentrate on development of regional Oriental Studies Centers within the next two years.

“From this moment on Kazan will be the capital of Oriental Studies of Russia”, – Mr. Kirill Babayev, the Vice-President of the Russian Orientalists Society, underlined.

Afterwards the Institute of Oriental Studies of Kazan University and the Institute named after Yunus Emre signed an Agreement on Turkey studying center opening under KFU. Signing of this Agreement was organized in the form of a solemn ceremony. The rector of the Institute named after Yunus Emre, Doctor of Philology, professor Mr. Ali Fuat Bilkan, and the Vice-Rector of KFU for International Relations, the Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations, Mr. Linar Latypov affixed their signatures to this document. “I shall try to do everything I can to attract scientific and academic elite of Turkey to Kazan University. I am happy that Kazan is turning into the centre of Oriental studies of Russia. I congratulate KFU with its new status!” – Mr. Ali Fuat Bilkan said.

For reference: Institute named after Yunus Emre (Ankara, the Republic of Turkey) was founded in 2009. Yunus Emre is a Turkish poet and thinker of the XIII century, he exerted a strong influence on Turkish literature and culture.

One of the main goals pursued by the Institute is establishment of bilateral relations all over the world in the sphere of culture and history, as well as people familiarization with current state of affairs in the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish language and literature teaching. To achieve these goals the Institute cooperates with educational, scientific-and-research and cultural institutions of other countries.

By the present day the Institute named after Yunus Emre has opened Turkish cultural centers in 60 cities of the world. Students are familiarized with culture, art and history of Turkey and taught the Turkish language in these centres.

The congress has done a large scope of work. It should be reminded that the following questions were discussed at the congress: scientific professionalism, conservation of scholar schools’ traditions, specialists training, licencing of new research and training centers, prospects of scientific co-operation between Russian orientalists with a view to preserve vanishing fundamental schools and introduce new research techniques. Over 60 scholars from KFU and other institutions of the RT made reports within the framework of this scientific event. The latter fact demonstrates the scientific potential of the Kazan School of Orientalism, which is one of the oldest in Russia and Europe and turns 205 this year.
