New Forms of Cooperation Between Universities of BRICS

A meeting of the co-founders of BRICS Network University and BRICS Universities League took place in Beijing on October 18th.

The Network University and the League have different agenda. Namely, the University is predominantly an educational institution, and the League is an umbrella structure for collaboration. Russia is ready to make its contribution to the Network University through its Global Education platform and state-funded scholarships for masters and doctoral candidates.

Kazan University was represented by Vice-Rector for Foreign Relations Linar Latypov. In his report he emphasized that KFU already has 18 partnership programs with Chinese, Brazilian and Indian universities. Petrochemistry research is the area of cooperation between KFU and University of Pretoria. There are Confucius Institute and Center for Indian Studies at KFU, Chinese language and Sanskrit are taught by native speakers.

As of now these are all separate projects outlined by individual cooperation agreements. BRICS Universities League and the respective declaration will help maintain all types of cooperation in a more organized and comprehensive way.

Dr. Latypov commented on the matter: «KFU is a co-organizer of BRICS Universities League. This participation will help facilitate more efficient collaboration with our partners, especially Chinese and Indian universities, and attract foreign students».
