Kazan University Delegation at 7th Russian Philosophical Congress

The Congress was held from October 6th to October 10th at Bashkir State University, Ufa. Director of the Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communications Mikhail Schelkunov was kind enough to briefly report on the event.

The tagline this year was «Philosophy. Tolerance. Globalization. East and West – Dialog of Worldviews». Over 1 500 visitors came from all over Russia and more than 40 other countries. The delegation of KFU was one of the most numerous with 21 people, among them Vice-Rector Marat Safiullin.

The opening ceremony was held at the Congress Hall. Among those who addressed the attendees were Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov, deputies of the State Duma, executives of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies.

25 panels, 5 symposiums, almost 30 roundtables, several Q&A sessions took place during the Congress. KFU's employees' appearances attracted much public interest. Three of the panels were moderated by Kazanites.

The overall ideological atmosphere of the Congress comes down to the following. The world needs a new order that can provide sustainable and peaceful development of all nations regardless of their race, culture, or religion. No more “chosen” leadership is viable, no matter how high are the historical merits of those potential single-handed leaders. The new system must be based on cherishing the value and dignity of all communities, mutual respect and tolerance.

It must also be noted that Ufa, the venue city, shows obvious progress in its development as a modern metropolis. It is a good example of the harmonious coexistence of cultures, ethnicities, and religions.
