Kazan University Plans to Become Co-Founder of BRICS Network University

The list of participants is to be announced in November 2015.

A meeting on the establishment of BRICS Network University was held in Moscow on September 15th - 16th by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. Delegations from the respective ministries of China, India, Brazil and South Africa attended, as well as a number of leading Russian universities who are thought to become the founders of the new entity.

Top ten universities from each country will be selected. The Network University is tasked with accelerating the research and educational cooperation between all sides.

At first attention will be paid to energy research, IT, and ecology. The scope of cooperation will then be broadened gradually.

Will KFU be one of the lucky participants? There are chances, and we will soon know the answer.

"We are now preparing all the paperwork to become one of the co-founders. In particular, we are working on the program in the three named priority areas which we will then present to the ministries of the participating countries, - says Vice-Rector for Foreing Relations Linar Latypov. - Even if we don't receive the honor we still will be the full-scale participants of the project because we are included in the list".

The meeting mainly touched upon procedural questions. For instance, the headquarters location has not yet been determined. It is suggested that it will be mobile, so that all the sides could feel the honor and the responsibility for the project. The hosting duties can become a kind of a relay baton for the universities.
