Russian – French Workshop on Chemo- and Bioinformatics

September 17 - Kazan Federal University hosted the French-Russian workshop on chemo-and bioinformatics.

The event brought together leading scientists and researchers from Russia, Germany and France. The workshop was organized by KFU in collaboration with University of Strasbourg, the leader in the development of chemo- and bioinformatics. Chairman of the organizing committee of the workshop was Professor Alexander Varnek from Strasbourg University.

The main purpose of the event was the presentation of the latest scientific advances in the field, and exchange of experience in teaching of these subjects. "This workshop gives us the opportunity to meet and discuss a number of issues. It has brought together experts from very different profiles, and for me it is a great pleasure to know what my colleagues have achieved. It is a very enriching experience, given the fact that we represent different cultures and different theoretical schools "- commented Alexander Varnek.

The workshop covered issues in virtual screening, computer design of new compounds, materials and reactions, computer modeling of ligand-receptor complexes. The workshop was of great interest to graduate students as well as undergraduates. "I think that the event will give a powerful impetus to the development of scientific research in these directions at Kazan University " – stressed Igor Antipin.

Later on, the organizers will discuss technical issues, since the graduate program is designed in a way that students study part of their course at Strasbourg, and the best of them will even receive a double diploma.
