Rudolf Grimm (AU) – "Introduction to ultracold atoms and quantum gases" – lecture course for all Physics students (May, 5–8)

Professor Rudolf Grimm (University of Innsbruck and Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, Innsbruck, Austria):

"In this short lecture course I will present a basic introduction into the exciting research field of ultracold atoms and quantum gases. I will start with the basic methods of laser cooling and trapping, which allow to prepare clouds of atoms at temperatures in the microkelvin regime (Nobel Prize 1997). I will then discuss the production of Bose-Einstein condensates (Nobel Prize 2001) and degenerate Fermi gases. The applications of ultracold quantum matter cover a wide range from ultraprecise atomic clocks to novel quantum states of matter".
