Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov Approves IOI-2016 Organizing Committee's Plans

The Organizing Committee meeting headed by Dmitry Livanov was held yesterday, April 29th, in Kazan which will be the host of the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics in 2016.

In his greeting Dmitry Livanov noted that IT is one of the key industries in Russia today, our teams usually perform very well in international competitions. The decision to hold the next Olympiad in Russia attests to this.

Kazan Federal University plays the key part in the organizational proceedings. KFU's administration in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science has already started preparations for the competition.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov informed that the Russian delegation consisting of the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Information and Communication of Tatarstan and KFU visited the 26th IOI in Taipei. The expertise obtained during this trip will be now used in Kazan.

Dr. Gafurov suggested the Universiade Village as the venue for the IOI. The Village has all the necessary facilities including a clinic and lots of sports grounds.

The competition itself will take place on the premises of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. The gyms here have enough space for up to 400 workstations.

The Higher Institute for Information Technology and Information Systems is in charge of the web support. The IOI-2016 website is currently under construction and will go online in August 2015.

The Organizing Committee also voted for the official logo of the Olympiad (see below in the photo gallery).

Other items were discussed as well, among them translation, accreditation, volunteer recruitment and training.

Dmitry Livanov said that the decision to choose the Universiade Village as the venue is a matter of course and doesn't need further discussion or approval.

All the preparations are underway and will be monitored and presented during the next Organizing Committee meeting in autumn.
