KFU delegation held favorable negotiations in Istanbul

The delegation of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of KFU visited International Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) in Istanbul, Turkey.

There was a number of events in terms of realization of Cooperation Agreement between Kazan Federal University and International Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture for the creation of the modern laboratory of paper restoration in Kazan.

The delegation of Kazan Federal University visited the headquarters of IRCICA located in the “Yıldız” palace complex. Ramil Khairutdinov, Director of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of KFU held negotiations with Halit Eren, Chief Executive, honorary doctor of KFU with participation of Kazan, Istanbul and Ankara scientists, where the issues of the launch of modern laboratory of study and restoration of written heritage, above all, the heritage of East materials of Lobachevski library with more than 14 000 samples in Arabic, Persian, Turk and Tatar, were discussed.

There are extremely valuable and rare items in the Eastern collection of N. Lobachevsky’s library. The oldest of them, “Tacvim-al-liman” is in Arabic and was written by Abu Muhammad Abdallah in 1164-1165. Besides that, there is Arabic collection of Tatar periodical press, which is the biggest in Russia. However, 90 percent of the fund needs to go through conservational works and 50 percent needs restoring. The necessity of such works is crucial in terms of the keeping of cultural heritage of Islamic culture.

Principal agreements about shipping of modern restoring equipment, setting up of textology sectors, digital processing and primary training of members of the future laboratory were made. KFU delegation has also visited restoring laboratories of Istanbul to understand their organizational procedure.

Kazan scientists have discussed an opportunity of the organization of internships of Kazan restoring specialists with Nil Beidan, the head of "Kitap şifahanesi". The experience gained by Turkish laboratories will be widely used by Kazan Federal University laboratories.

Kazan scientists have also visited Istanbul University field laboratories of cameral treatment of archeological materials and archeological wood restoration. Both of these laboratories deal with artefacts discovered during excavation within the period of construction of the channel through Bosporus. The issues of the partnership in the field of history, archeology, Turkic studies and linguistics were discussed during the meeting with Mustafa Ozkan, the Head of the Faculty of Literature of Istanbul University.
