The article analyzes various ways of color designation in French and Tatar, including the names of equine coat color. The results of the study demonstrate similarity of the concept “blue color” in Tatar and French, the absence of nomination dichotomy of navy blue (синий) and greenish blue (голубой) in both languages, and the expediency of defining hippocoloristics as a separate area in linguistics of color. We have developed a unique Tatar-French vocabulary of equine coat color, contributing to the preservation of this specific lexicon in the active vocabulary of the languages under study.
