During visit to Cuba, Kazan Federal University delegation headed by Ilshat Gafurov met with volunteers of the local organization of Kazan University alumni.

The visit programme for authorities of Tatarstan Republic and Kazan Federal University to the Island of Freedom included participation in the 32nd Havana International Fair FIHAV held on 2-8 November in Expocuba Exhibition Center. This is one of the largest exhibition and fair events in Latin America, where annually participate 2 thousand companies from 60 countries.

During the exhibition, Rector of Kazan Federal University signed agreements with the University of Havana and Center of Gene Engineering and Biological Technologies of Havana, and later there were held negotiations concerning future cooperation in the sphere of exchange of scientists and postgraduates. Moreover, there were meetings with governing bodies of Jose Antonio Echeverria Higher Polytechnic Institute and Medical University of Havana and Rodolfo Alarcon Ortiz, the First Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Cuba. They discussed an opportunity of meeting of Cuban and Russian universities' Rectors in Kazan.

One of the most remarkable events of the exhibition was meeting of Cuban graduates with Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilshat Gafurov, Rector of Kazan Federal University, Linar Latypov, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Andrey Kiyasov, Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology Institute.

It worth reminding, that in 1980-s over 250 Cubans successfully completed education and received diplomas in Kazan University. 150 of them work in Cuba, while others live in Europe, Africa, and countries of Latin America. As it was noted by graduates, high quality of Kazan University education  allowed many of them to hold major positions in the system of education and national economy of Cuba.

Irina Cascaret, longstanding leader of the Cuban organization of Kazan University alumni, cordially thanked Kazan University and its faculty on behalf of the audience for "wonderful time", solid knowledge, and warm-hearted attitude. She also made a video congratulation for Kazan University which will be shown during grand celebration on December 6.
