EU and Russia: Tolerance and Multiculturalism in Education

On March, 3 representatives of Russian and foreign universities which take part in implementation of a new project financed by Tempus (European program of higher education support) visited Kazan Federal University.

It bears reminding that 171 projects including 2 with participation of Kazan Federal University were financially supported by Tempus in 2013.

The project “Actions of Lifelong Learning addressing Multicultural Education and Tolerance in Russia” (ALLMEET) is aimed at development of continuous education focused on forming multiculturalism in education and tolerance in Russia.  

Morena Cuconato, Professor from the University of Bologna, coordinator of ALMEET project,  told that several European and seven Russian partners participated in this work. Their goal is to develop cultural platform for intercultural education in Russia.

The consortium is presented by its Contractor University of Bologna (Italy), University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Glasgow (Great Britain), Foundation European Centre for Valuation of Prior Learning in Holland (Netherlands).

Russian party is presented by Kazan, Siberian and Northern (Arctic) federal universities, Mari State University, Moscow City Pedagogical University, Institute of Pedagogue and Psychology of Professional Education of the Russian Academy of Education and Charitable educational organization Gold Heart.

The project objective includes: support of higher education modernization in Russia, granting universities the opportunity to play a key role in realization of continuous education in migration, intercultural education, human rights, as well as increasing the tolerance level of attitude towards migrants and ethnic minorities. 

Currently the project implementation is on the level of discussion and information collection. Representatives of universities-partners came to Kazan to get acquainted with each other and organize the work with a view to achieve declared results. They include: development of new educational resources, research of interethnic relations and tolerance in Russia, conduction of scientific events (focus-groups, seminars and scientific conferences), publications in international and Russian journals, guidelines development for state and municipal agencies to enhance the strategy of migration and ethnic policy in Russia, internships for faculty members and students in Russian and EU partner universities.    

Scientists from the Department of Social Sciences at Naberezhnye Chelny branch and from the Department of Political Science of KFU Faculty of Philosophy will actively participate in the project. 

Deputy Director of External Relations Office Olga Vershinina informed that they had established connections in the framework of mobility realized within another major European project. Namely due to this fact there was fulfilled participation of Kazan colleagues in ALMEET.  

Prof. Oleg Zaznaev, Associate Professors Vasil Sakaev and Eldar Aetdinov were awarded grants and undertook internships at the University of Bologna. Currently they take part in a new program with their Italian colleagues. Wish them success!
