The I Republican Forum on Linguistics Opened in KFU

Today, on the 28th of February, a solemn ceremony opening the I Republican Forum on Linguistics “Bridging Languages and Cultures” was held in Kazan Federal University.

The Forum was organised by the Division of Translation and Interpretation Studies and World Cultural Heritage of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies (IRHOS), KFU.

The ceremony was held in the assembly hall, where more than 300 pupils of the 8th – 11th forms from 47 schools, gymnasiums and lyceums of 29 regions of the Republic of Tatarstan got together. Teachers of the Institute greeted the children.

Deputy Director for Educational and Social Work, IRHOS, KFU, Mr. Victor Tumanin, and the head of the Department of European Languages and Cultures, Ms. Diana Sabirova, spoke to the schoolchildren.

An address to the children given by the interpreter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, KFU teacher, Mr. Anhel Losano Ernandes, sounded interesting, as well. He wished the attendees to use all opportunities for language study available in KFU.

After the ceremony a lecture on the topic “Shakespeare is 450” was delivered to the schoolchildren.

Reference information. There will be seven sections presented at the Forum: Mystery of Interpretation; Language Labyrinth; Lord of Sounds; the quiz game “Expert in Culture and History of the RT”; three scientific research sections – “Contrastive Linguistics”, “Science of Language. Translation and Interpretations Studies” and “Intercultural and Interlanguage Communication”.

Furthermore, 15 specially formed teams (with 5 schoolchildren in each team) will participate in an interactive game “Kazan. The Enchanted Capital”. Moreover, there is an interactive exhibition “Germany in a Suitcase” organised for schoolchildren in the framework of the Forum.
