Kazan University Is Ready for the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics

The Olympiad will take place from August 12th to 19th.

85 teams from 84 countries will attend, and 5 other teams will participate as observers. 327 secondary schoolers in total will arrive to Kazan for the event. The Olympiad is supervised by UNESCO and has been held since 1989. 25 countries have hosted the IOI (Greece and Bulgaria – twice each). Russia is welcoming the Olympiad for the first time, having outbid Japan and Azerbaijan.

Kazan University was a natural choice for the bid – IT is one of the key sectors in local education. Equally important is that Tatarstan has long been a pioneer in public IT services in healthcare, education, and general administrative issues.

Lyudmila Nugumanova, Advisor to the Rector and curator of the IOI 2016, said that hosting such an event is a big honor. KFU will be represented in the contest by Askhat Sakhabiev, a student of Lobachevsky Lyceum.

The Olympiads are traditionally followed closely by IT companies who seek young talents even from secondary schools. Kazan University will also pay attention to the participants and try to convince them to become students here.
