Chairman of NHS England Malcolm Grant Visits Kazan University

Sir Malcolm Grant, a member of the Council of Project 5-100, arrived to the University on November 10th.

During his meeting with Rector Ilshat Gafurov Chairman Grant praised the current state of affairs at the University. He also touched upon some peculiarities of the Russian educational system that are of special interest to him. The first one is the existence of medical universities. In the UK, as Mr. Grant noted, such institutions were merged with classical universities; this gave a boost to the quality of research work. The second one is the dynamics of cooperation between the Russian Academy of Sciences and universities.

Rector Gafurov said the quality of research the first thing on the University team's minds when priority areas were chosen back in the day. The same goes for the establishment of the University Clinic.

Chairman Grant visited several facilities of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, including the Medical Simulation Center. He also met with Prime Minister of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov.

Malcolm Grant's visit concludes on November 11th with visiting some of the key University's facilities.
